The Imo State Government has begun a comprehensive recertification exercise for all landed properties located within government-approved layouts across the 27 local government areas of the state.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who said the initiative follows a directive from Governor Hope Uzodinma to improve land administration and ensure proper records in government layouts.
According to the commissioner, the exercise will start with a full re-survey of all properties within the Owerri Schedule layouts beginning Monday, December 8, 2025. He explained that accredited land surveyors have been deployed and will be on the ground to collect the data required for the recertification process.
Emelumba said the exercise will lead to the issuance of new Certificates of Occupancy to eligible plot owners across the affected areas. He called on all allottees and property owners to cooperate with the survey teams to ensure a smooth and successful process.
He noted that completing the recertification exercise will help property owners by ensuring proper documentation, better security of land ownership, and improved confidence in the state’s land management system.
