Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted Hon. Hassan Biu Miringa, former Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area, along with another individual, and are demanding a ransom of $300,000 for their release.
The abduction occurred in mid-December 2025 while the victims were travelling along the Miringa–Maiduguri highway. A video released by the captors confirmed that the victims are still alive and appealed to government officials and community leaders for assistance.
Local authorities and leaders, including Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, have been called upon to intervene and ensure the safe and prompt release of the abducted officials. Security agencies in the state are reported to be coordinating efforts to locate and rescue the victims.
While the situation highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Borno State, it also underscores the resilience and unity of the local communities and the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens.
Residents and civic groups have expressed hope and confidence that swift and coordinated action will secure the release of the abducted individuals without harm, sending a strong message against terrorism and violence.
Authorities have urged anyone with credible information about the whereabouts of the captives to come forward to assist in the ongoing rescue operation.
