Okoi Obono-Obla has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to promote fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in its nomination process, cautioning against the imposition of high fees such as ₦50 million.
In his remarks, Obono-Obla warned that requiring aspirants to pay ₦50 million should not be used in a way that sidelines or unfairly eliminates candidates. He stressed that such fees must go with a credible, open, and merit-based primary process that gives every aspirant a fair opportunity to compete.
He also noted that transparency in the conduct of party primaries is important to maintaining trust among members. According to him, the party can benefit by creating an environment where all qualified individuals, regardless of financial strength, can take part in the democratic process.
Obono-Obla added that the APC can use this moment to improve its nomination framework and ensure equal access for aspirants. He said fairness and accountability will help improve the party’s image and support Nigeria’s democratic development.
