Dangote Refinery Slashes Petrol and Diesel Prices Again, Offering Relief to Marketers and Consumers

The Dangote Refinery has once again reduced the prices of key petroleum products, a move that is expected to ease pressure in Nigeria’s downstream fuel market and support more stable energy costs.

According to the latest update from the refinery, the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) has been reduced from around ₦1,275 per litre to approximately ₦1,250 per litre. In the same adjustment, Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) was also cut from about ₦1,800 per litre to roughly ₦1,700 per litre.

Industry observers say the latest reduction reflects ongoing efforts by the refinery to respond to changing crude oil costs and improve supply efficiency within the domestic market. It also reinforces the refinery’s growing role in shaping fuel pricing dynamics since beginning large-scale operations.

While the price cuts are applied at the wholesale (ex-depot) level, Nigerians may gradually see some relief at filling stations as marketers adjust retail prices in response to the new rates.

Energy analysts note that continued domestic refining capacity could help reduce Nigeria’s long-standing exposure to volatile global fuel import prices, potentially leading to more stable pump prices over time.

For now, the latest reduction is being welcomed as a positive signal for both transport operators and consumers facing persistent fuel cost pressures.
