ADC Alleges APC Using EFCC to Witch-Hunt Malami

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to politically target former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami SAN.

In a statement signed by ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi the party condemned the EFCC’s recent decision to revoke Malami’s bail describing it as a politically motivated move rather than a legal necessity.

The party noted that Malami has complied with all bail conditions and fully cooperated with investigators. ADC also highlighted the timing of the bail revocation which occurred shortly after Malami attended a political rally in Kebbi State where he is reportedly seeking to contest the 2027 governorship election.

This action by the EFCC smacks of a deliberate attempt to curtail Malami’s political ambitions the statement read. We are concerned that anti corruption agencies are being weaponised for partisan purposes rather than serving as impartial enforcers of the law.

Malami who defected from the APC to the ADC earlier this year has faced growing scrutiny from anti-graft agencies. The former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also criticized the EFCC’s actions warning that selective targeting of opposition figures undermines democratic principles.

ADC emphasized that while it supports genuine anti corruption efforts any politically motivated prosecution threatens the rule of law and the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The controversy highlights ongoing tensions over the perceived independence of Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies and raises questions about the intersection of legal proceedings and political rivalries ahead of the 2027 elections.
