The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, has denied issuing any response to the corruption allegations recently made against him by billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote.
Ahmed clarified that a statement circulating widely on social media and some online platforms, which was attributed to him as a response to the allegations, did not originate from him and was neither written nor approved by his office. He described the statement as false and misleading.
He stated that he would not engage in public exchanges or media confrontations over the matter, noting that he prefers to allow the appropriate institutions to handle the issue in line with due process.
Dangote had accused Ahmed of corrupt enrichment and abuse of office and has formally submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission requesting an investigation. The anti corruption agency has confirmed receipt of the petition and said it would investigate the allegations in accordance with the law.
Ahmed’s position reflects his confidence in the investigative process and his decision to allow institutional scrutiny rather than public debate as the matter progresses.
