The Yobe State Government has approved the sum of ₦20 million as financial assistance for victims of a recent boat accident that occurred in the state, leaving several families affected.
The donation, announced by state officials, is part of the government’s effort to cushion the impact of the tragedy and provide immediate relief to survivors and bereaved families. The funds are expected to support medical treatment for the injured and help families cope with the loss of loved ones.
According to the government, the intervention reflects its commitment to the welfare and safety of residents, especially those living in riverine and waterway-dependent communities. Officials expressed sympathy to the victims and assured them of continued support during the recovery process.
The state government also reiterated its resolve to strengthen safety regulations on inland waterways, including enforcing the use of life jackets and improving monitoring of boat operations, in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
