In Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, the sound of children’s laughter is finally filling school corridors—a sound that, for years, was drowned out by creaking desks and dripping roofs. Communities here long struggled with overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating infrastructure, and a lack of basic learning resources. Today, through a deliberate and sustained effort, the schools are being transformed into safe, inspiring spaces where students can dream, learn, and thrive.
Education is widely recognized as the foundation of societal progress. It shapes character, fosters critical thinking, drives economic growth, and equips citizens to navigate a rapidly changing world.
For Hon. Engr. Akarachi Amadi, the constituency’s representative in the National Assembly, revitalizing schools is not simply a political agenda—it is a commitment to giving every child in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru the opportunity to reach their full potential.
For decades, public schools in the constituency faced formidable challenges. Classrooms were overcrowded, often accommodating two to three times the recommended number of students. Furniture was broken or inadequate, roofs leaked during the rainy season, and sanitation facilities were poor. Electricity was unreliable, making evening lessons nearly impossible, while access roads were so bad that many children risked their safety just to attend school. In these conditions, teachers struggled to maintain standards, and students often lost motivation. Schools, once meant to be centers of opportunity, had become symbols of neglect.
Determined to change this, Hon. Amadi launched a comprehensive school revitalization program. New classroom blocks were built to ease congestion, and older structures were extensively renovated. Today, classrooms are bright, well-ventilated, and furnished with safe, comfortable seating. Roofs have been reinforced, walls repainted, and spaces redesigned to create a conducive learning environment.
The program extends beyond classrooms. Sanitation facilities have been upgraded to provide clean and safe toilets. Electrification projects now ensure reliable lighting, improving safety and enabling after-school programs. Roads leading to schools have been repaired, making access easier for students in remote areas. Recognizing the importance of digital literacy, ICT infrastructure has been introduced alongside training programs, giving students the skills to compete in a technology-driven economy.
The results are visible across the constituency. Teachers report renewed motivation and productivity, while parents are regaining confidence in public education. Students, once disengaged, now attend classes with enthusiasm, eager to explore new subjects and embrace opportunities. For many children, stepping into a newly renovated classroom is more than a daily routine—it is a powerful symbol that their education and future matter.
One teacher observed, “The difference is night and day. Students are more focused, more disciplined, and genuinely excited to learn. It gives us hope for the future.” A parent added, “Seeing the school transform has restored my faith in public education. I now know that my children have a chance to succeed without leaving their community.”
