The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, demanding the refund of N110 billion allegedly spent on vehicle procurement and lawmakers’ support allowances declared unlawful by a court.

The demand follows a judgment delivered by Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court, who ruled that the N40 billion spent on official vehicles and an additional N70 billion in support allowances violated procurement regulations, constitutional provisions, and public finance rules.

SERAP insists that the affected lawmakers must refund the funds within seven days or face further legal action, describing the ruling as a test of accountability and respect for the rule of law.

The development has drawn widespread attention from transparency advocates, who view it as a significant step toward strengthening oversight of public spending and reducing waste in government.

If enforced, observers say the recovery of the funds could mark a major victory for Nigerian taxpayers and reinforce public confidence in democratic institutions and financial accountability.
