Nigeria’s gas industry has received a major boost as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) signs strategic agreements with six companies to increase gas supply, improve energy security, and support industrial development across the country.
The agreements, involving key industry players including Seplat Energy and the ANOH Gas Processing Company, are expected to create new opportunities in gas production, processing, transportation, and utilisation.
A major highlight of the deals is the 15-year gas supply agreement between the NNPC/Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited Joint Venture and UTM FLNG Ltd, which will provide about 200 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscf/d) to support the UTM floating liquefied natural gas project.
In addition, gas network agreements involving Chevron Nigeria Limited, ANOH Gas Processing Company, and NNPC Exploration & Production Limited will enable the delivery of up to 800 MMscf/d of gas into Nigeria’s domestic market, supporting power generation and industrial activities.
The ANOH Gas Processing Project, a partnership between Seplat Energy and NNPC’s gas subsidiaries, is among Nigeria’s key gas infrastructure developments. The first phase of the facility is designed to process about 300 MMscf/d of gas, helping to expand domestic gas availability.
The agreements mark a new phase in Nigeria’s gas development plans, with the potential to support economic growth, create employment opportunities, attract investment, and improve access to reliable energy.
Through these partnerships, NNPC and its partners are advancing the use of natural gas as a major source of energy for Nigeria’s industries and households while strengthening the country’s position in Africa’s energy sector.
