IPOB Calls for South-East Seaports: Opt-Out of Lagos Chaos

by admin

IPOB, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, urges Igbo traders to utilize the Onne Seaport in Igweocha for their business transactions, citing neglect of South-East seaports by the Nigerian government.

The group expresses concern over governmental policies hindering investment and development in the South-East since 1999, including the closure of functional seaports in the region, leaving Lagos as the sole operational port. This policy has led to overcrowding and traffic congestion in Lagos.

Despite operational challenges at the Onne port, IPOB calls on Igbo importers and exporters to prioritize it over Lagos ports, advocating perseverance to overcome imposed barriers.

The spokesperson emphasizes that over time, consistency in utilizing the Onne port will eliminate these barriers, stressing the port’s proximity to the South-East as advantageous.

IPOB condemns the presence of illegal checkpoints along Lagos-Eastern region roads, making importing through Lagos ports economically unviable. The group urges Biafran businessmen and women to reinvest in the South-East for enhanced security and protection of their investments.

In conclusion, IPOB encourages Igbo traders to consider Onne port as a viable alternative to Lagos ports, prioritizing economic benefits over imposed barriers.
