Imo State Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption has led to significant actions under his Shared Prosperity Administration. On May 14, 2024, Governor Uzodimma ordered the arrest and detention of Mr. Emmanuel Ezeanochie, the former President of the Imo State Market Traders Association (ISAMATA). Ezeanochie stands accused of misappropriating government properties and funds.
Since Ezeanochie’s detention, a wave of support has surged from thousands of Imolites, particularly traders from various markets across the state. They have organized peaceful protests and fervently appealed for his release. The clamor for Ezeanochie’s freedom extends across all 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State, with millions joining the call for his release.
Despite the overwhelming public demand for his release, Ezeanochie remains in police custody in Owerri, where his health has taken a severe downturn. During a visit to the police station by ThePressman Newspaper and GrassrootReporters Newspaper, Ezeanochie conveyed deep concerns about his rapidly deteriorating condition.
“Please, my journalists, I beg you to use your media platforms to plead with our Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, to show mercy and grant me freedom. My health is getting worse by the day, and I fear I will die here if I am not released,” Ezeanochie implored, his voice filled with desperation.
The prolonged detention of Mr. Emmanuel Ezeanochie has not only taken a toll on his health but also caused immense anguish for his family. As each day passes, the situation grows more dire, with Ezeanochie’s pleas for compassion and justice echoing throughout the state. The urgent call for his release is not merely a quest for freedom but a desperate appeal to save a life on the brink.
