A well polished Chief Superintendent of Police, N.P Kingsley Iredibia, has presented three thought-provoking books to the public in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.
The three presented books by the author who is popularly known as NPK include: Proper Policing, Robust Police Image Promotion and the Hunters Shall No Longer Be Hunted.
The recent presentation of the books at the Rockview Hotel, Owerri, attracted many dignitaries from various strata of life, including the clergy, the political class and the traditional institution.
The review of the three books that were done by these three erudite scholars from the state: Dr. Kingsley Chukwuemeka Izogu, Dr. Orji Uchenna and Dr. mrs.Florence Iredibia elicited great commendation of the author by the guests in attendance.
Dr. KC. Izogu who reviewed his book on Proper Policing, described the book as a must read by everyone, considering the painstaking effort of the author to state some of the perceived ills in the police force and as proffer some solutions to remedy them as contained in the 271 -page book.
In same vein, Dr. Orji Uchenna took the review of his book, The Hunters Shall No Longer Be Hunted which has 212 pages, while Dr.mrs. Florence Iredibia of the Imo State University, Owerri, reviewed his third book, Robust Police Image Promotion.
In his brief speech, the event chairman, prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo, expressed delight in associating with one of the brilliant and refined police officers in Nigeria found to be combining his police services with writing books for the betterment of the society.
Barrister Nlemigbo decried the poor turnout of the members of the police Force to the book presentation of one of their own, referring it as very embarrassing.
He equally used the opportunity to advise people to always strive to touch lives while alive just like Chief Iwuanyanwu did in his live time.
Nlemigbo added that he would not like to be associated with wealth during his earthly departure, but would prefer to be remembered for a good number of lives he was able to transform while on Earth.
He therefore commended the author, CSP Kingsley Iredibia for using his books to fight for a desired change in the society, prophesying that he would one day be appointed IGP in the country, considering his level of intellectual impact in the system.
Chatting with some Imo journalists shortly after the event, the author, NPK Iredibia, posited that he was touched to embark on his three books concerning the police force because of the existing bad police image in Nigeria and his willingness to procure some strategies for such image reformation and thereby improving efficiency in the police job. In his own words, he said: “
I feel somehow when the image of the police is being tarnished and Iam trying to look for alternative ways to come out of it, bringing out the strategies on what and what we should be doing, how we should be doing it, when we should be acting and when not to be acting so that that the bad image to an extent will leave us because it is affecting our efficiency in the job”.
He therefore stated that the achievement of the expected reformation in the Police Force would provide the needed trust by the public in the security arm and encourage the information extraction from them which would inturn enable the police to succeed. He referred this as a limitation to the operational police efficiency in the society.
He advised his colleagues to imbibe a civilized way of arresting an offender while on arrest mission, stressing that the constitutionally approved approach was still anchored on the invitation of an offender for some questions.
The Ogbaku-Mbaitolu born police officer said that though police could resort to the use of force because of the failure of some offenders to honour a dropped invitation, but rather prefer to rush to court to file human rights abuse suit against the police, thereby placing the police on the receiving end.
He concluded that the aim of his book presentation was to sell his ideas to the public and not to derive joy on the large number of people that ought to have turned up for the event.
