In a bold step toward improving road infrastructure and easing transportation burdens, the Imo State Government has officially awarded the contract for the reconstruction of the 35.1-kilometre Owerri-Elele Road to Craneburg Construction Company.
Although the road falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, the Imo State Government has taken the initiative to rehabilitate it through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This strategic decision underscores the state’s commitment to addressing the prolonged suffering of commuters and residents who have long endured the road’s deteriorated condition.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Works, Barr. Ralph Nwosu, announced that the contractor is already mobilizing to site and that work will commence without delay. He assured the public that the reconstruction project will be executed with strict adherence to the specifications outlined in the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME), and that quality control will be a top priority.
This intervention is more than just a road project; it is a lifeline for countless citizens who rely on this route for daily travel and commerce,” Barr. Nwosu stated. “Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration remains dedicated to investing in critical infrastructure that enhances connectivity and fosters economic growth.
The Owerri-Elele Road serves as a vital link between Imo and Rivers States, playing a key role in the movement of people, goods, and services. Once completed, the reconstructed road is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety, and spur economic activity across the region.
This project is one of several major infrastructure undertakings under Governor Uzodimma’s broader agenda to modernize Imo State and improve the quality of life for its residents.
