Lawmaker Under Fire for Renovating 80 Cemeteries in Zamfara

by admin

Federal lawmaker Kabiru Amadu Maipalace, representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, has renovated 80 cemeteries across Zamfara State as part of his 2025 constituency projects — a move that has sparked public backlash.

The renovations, which include fencing, sanitation, and water supply, were intended to improve the dignity of burial sites. However, many residents and civic groups criticized the project as a misuse of public funds, citing more urgent needs in health, education, and security.

Despite the criticism, Maipalace has received praise for other constituency efforts, including the distribution of vehicles, food palliatives, and medical support. Still, questions remain over the relevance and impact of the cemetery project in a state facing deep socio-economic challenges.
