Owerri, Nigeria – Renowned activist and political commentator, Prince Maduba Chukwudi Francis, popularly known as OluImo, has publicly distanced himself from the proposal for the creation of ANIM State within the South-East geopolitical zone, instead declaring strong support for the creation of Anioma State.
In a media briefing with journalists, OluImo emphasized that Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State cannot continue to remain, in his words, a “political dungeon” dominated by interests that do not prioritize the well-being and development of its people.
He passionately argued that the proposed Anioma State better reflects the aspirations of the people of Oguta, highlighting cultural and historical ties that align the LGA with the vision of Anioma. According to OluImo, “Anioma represents the Igbo reintegration and political revolution movement. Its formation is not just geographical but also ideological – and Oguta naturally affiliates with that.”
OluImo particularly praised Senator Ned Nwoko, who has been a leading advocate for Anioma State creation. He lauded the Senator’s “meticulous and inclusive” mapping of the proposed state’s boundaries, which notably includes Oguta. He expressed optimism that this inclusion would usher in a new era of political relevance and infrastructural development for the area.
“The people of Oguta in their totality will support the actualization of Anioma State,” OluImo affirmed. “Senator Ned Nwoko deserves commendation for his foresight. However, I urge him to further engage with critical stakeholders in Oguta to solidify this vision.”
The debate over state creation in Nigeria’s South-East continues to draw diverse opinions, with proposals such as ANIM and Anioma State vying for support. OluImo’s statement marks a significant shift in political advocacy within Imo State, especially given Oguta’s strategic position and growing demand for representation and autonomy within a more inclusive state structure.
