The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has explained the personal reasons behind his decision to stop employing female secretaries. He stated that the move is not driven by gender bias but by a desire to avoid situations that could lead to moral vulnerability or public misunderstanding.
Speaking during a recent session with his congregation, Adeboye said that the nature of his work often keeps him in the office until the early hours of the morning, sometimes as late as 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. He noted that being alone with a female secretary at such times could expose both parties to temptation or create misleading impressions, especially considering his public position.
He added that the decision was a proactive step to protect his ministry, his marriage, and his personal integrity. According to him, it is not a matter of discrimination but a decision based on wisdom and caution.
Adeboye also referred to a similar situation involving his son years ago, when he advised him to dismiss a female secretary whose close working relationship appeared to be affecting his marriage. He clarified that the concern was not about the character of the woman but about the risks that come with close and frequent private interactions between male and female colleagues, especially at odd hours.
The pastor explained that as a religious and public figure, he has a responsibility to maintain clear moral boundaries and avoid any situation that could lead to suspicion or scandal. He added that no individual, regardless of spiritual stature, is above the need for caution.
His remarks have generated wide conversation on social media. Supporters commend his discipline, while others debate the possible impact of such decisions on gender equality in professional environments.
