Suspected Terrorists on Motorcycles Raid Kwara Village, Loot Phone Shops as Residents Flee in Fear

Armed men believed to be terrorists on motorcycles launched a sudden and unsettling raid on Gada Oli village, near Woro in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, late on Saturday night. Villagers described a moment of panic as the gunmen tore through the community, firing shots into the air and forcing families to scatter into nearby bushes for safety.

According to residents who spoke anonymously for fear of reprisals, the attackers rode into the village on several motorcycles and began shooting into the sky, creating fear and confusion. As people fled their homes, the assailants moved quickly to break into phone shops and other small businesses, taking mobile phones and other goods before disappearing into the darkness.

Despite the terrifying nature of the assault, community sources reported that no deaths have yet been confirmed following the overnight incident. Witnesses said the psychological impact and disruption to daily life have been profound, with many residents still too frightened to return home.

Villagers recalled the chaotic scenes, saying the attackers seemed well-organized and confident, taking advantage of the cover of night to strike swiftly and vanish. A local resident described the ordeal, saying, “They came with gunshots and no warning. When we saw the gunfire and heard the noise, we ran for our lives.”

Security analysts say the raid adds to growing concerns about the spread of violent attacks by armed groups in parts of northern and central Nigeria, where rural communities have increasingly found themselves targeted. These attacks often involve armed men on motorcycles, a tactic that allows them to move quickly across rough terrain.

The latest incident follows a much larger and deadlier assault earlier this year in early February 2026, when suspected extremist militants mounted a coordinated attack on the neighbouring communities of Woro and Nuku, killing more than 160 people. Survivors described how gunmen surrounded villages, opened fire indiscriminately, and destroyed homes and shops in a campaign of terror that left entire families displaced and traumatized.

Local authorities have been under pressure to step up security efforts to protect communities across Kwara North, where fear of violence has disrupted everyday life. In response to the earlier massacres, the federal government launched a joint military operation aimed at dismantling armed groups operating in forested corridors that stretch across the state’s northern and western borders.

Residents have urged security forces to increase patrols and maintain a constant presence in vulnerable areas rather than relying on occasional responses after attacks occur. Many families in affected communities continue to live in fear of further raids, especially at night.

As investigations continue, officials have yet to publicly comment on Saturday’s incident. Meanwhile, villagers are left counting losses and hoping for greater protection in the days ahead.
