Marcus Rashford has been advised on a vital attribute he lacks compared to Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Manchester United winger cautioned that “something is missing”.
The Red Devils standout achieved 30 goals last season but has experienced a downturn in form in the current campaign, finding the net only six times. He is now urged to seek inspiration from CR7.
England international Rashford appeared on the verge of ascending to the ranks of global football elite in the 2022-23 season, notching a personal best of 30 goals across all competitions. However, his performance levels have diminished this season, prompting suggestions that he needs to replicate Ronaldo’s dedication to his craft during his stint at Old Trafford.
Former United striker Louis Saha, speaking to Paddy Power, drew parallels between Rashford and another Manchester winger who failed to fulfill his potential: “I always draw comparisons between Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo. They possess similar attributes, with Nani capable of almost everything, including defending and contributing to the team. He had tremendous energy. However, excelling in dribbling, passing, and scoring requires making the right decisions at the right moments, which is challenging.
“Marcus Rashford faces a similar predicament as Nani did because they both possess versatile skills, but something crucial is lacking. Cristiano dedicated himself to refining his finishing ability and creating scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. This is what Rashford needs to focus on. Fans also take note of this and question why he hasn’t fully committed. He must give his all, and if that means being substituted after 60 or 70 minutes, it’s acceptable as long as he’s given his best.
Saha further offered guidance to Rashford regarding his future amidst ongoing transfer speculation: “Marcus Rashford has several alternatives, but there are aspects he needs to improve to elevate his performances, regardless of his destination. He questions his positioning on the pitch, his movement, and how to play with instinct and freedom. Whether he’s deployed on the left, right, or in the center doesn’t matter when he possesses such quality.”
