Responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) sprang into action on Tuesday to assist three injured individuals at Anthony Service Lane en route to Town Planning Way, Lagos.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, revealed that the rescued individuals were passengers aboard one of the involved Volkswagen commercial buses.
Taofiq indicated that preliminary investigations unveiled that a Volvo truck with six tires (bearing registration number T-17138LA) lost control due to excessive speed caused by brake failure. This resulted in a collision with a Nissan Car (registered as LSD 497 EY) and two Volkswagen commercial buses (registered as EKY 129 XT and KSF 815 XS).
Following the incident, the truck driver fled the scene. However, officers from Mosafejo Police Station provided security assistance during the rescue operation conducted by LASTMA personnel.
Bakare Sulaiman Akanbi, the Head of Zone 11 Anthony at LASTMA, who oversaw the recovery efforts, confirmed that his team promptly removed the Volvo Truck and three other vehicles from the roadway to facilitate smooth traffic flow towards Town Planning.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, issued a stern admonition to truck owners and drivers, stressing the importance of prioritizing safety by refraining from excessive speeding and ensuring comprehensive inspection of their vehicles, particularly the braking system, before embarking on any journeys within or outside Lagos.
