Customs Officers Terribly Injured as Smugglers Attempt to Transport Nigerian Fuel to Cameroon

by admin

Customs officers stationed at the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command were assaulted by smugglers while attempting to prevent the transportation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to the Republic of Cameroon.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Sahuda, a border town situated in the Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The officers intercepted the smugglers’ convoy consisting of three tricycles loaded with PMS suspected to be destined for smuggling across the border.

Despite the officers’ efforts to halt the smuggling operation, the smugglers turned violent, mobilizing a mob armed with clubs and daggers. The assailants attacked the officers and even attempted to set them and their official vehicles ablaze. Fortunately, the timely intervention of military officers prevented further escalation of the situation.

Confirming the incident, Comptroller Salisu Abdullahi Kazaure of the Area Command stated that an Incident Report had been submitted to customs headquarters in Abuja.

According to the report, one officer sustained severe injuries during the attack, and the windscreen of an operational vehicle was smashed. Despite the violence, the officers managed to secure and evacuate 45x25L Jerry Cans of PMS from the tricycles to the station amidst the struggle.
