“The occurrence allegedly transpired at the Ogun State section of the route.
A 59-seater deluxe coach owned by Ifesinachi Transport Ltd was assaulted and incinerated on Saturday by armed thieves along the Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin City expressway.
The event purportedly took place at the Ogun State portion of the route.
In footage shared on X (formerly Twitter) by social media influencer Chude Nnamdi, some impacted travelers recount how they were intercepted by the bandits who pilfered their possessions and set the bus ablaze.
Ifesinachi Transport Ltd incurred the loss of a 59-seater luxury coach to armed robbers on the Ijebu Ode/Ore/Benin expressway in the early hours of Yesterday, 03/30/2024.
Reportedly, they incinerated the entire vehicle along with all the belongings of the passengers inside.
Many of the bus passengers were purportedly en route to the southeast region to celebrate Easter. The passengers asserted that no casualties were reported but mentioned that they all struggled to evade being engulfed in flames inside the bus.
One of the passengers recounted, “Ifesinachi Motors, we were traveling at night to return to the East for Easter festivities, and criminals ambushed us in Ijebu Ode along the Ore/Benin expressway.
“They deprived us of everything we possessed, some were partially disrobed. They confined us inside the 59-seater luxury coach and set it ablaze. We are grateful that we eventually escaped; nobody perished but all our possessions were seized.
“We are grateful that we didn’t lose anyone but we lost all our belongings and some sustained injuries.”
“This is Ifesinachi Motors that we were traveling with on Friday night, and this assault occurred around 2 am. They partially disrobed us. You can utilize it; the individuals in the vehicle are utterly stranded. Some individuals were reportedly slashed with machetes and others suffered broken limbs. We have young children among us,” another individual added.
He continued: “We were somewhat informed that robbers were present on the road, but the conductor instructed the driver to proceed, and we entered into the lair of the robbers. After robbing us, they set the vehicle ablaze.”
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, Odutola Omolola, on her mobile phone were unsuccessful. Furthermore, she did not respond to a text message sent to her.
