Dr. Fabian Ihekweme has called on Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State to either refund the payments made by over 120,000 citizens for land allocations or provide the promised plots. During Uzodinma’s first term, the state government advertised land sales, and citizens paid between N100,000 to N500,000 for application forms, resulting in over ₦12 billion collected. However, the expected plots were never allocated, and the funds remain unaccounted for, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.
Ihekweme criticized the governor’s decision to assume the role of Commissioner for Lands, which he sees as a conflict of interest. Unlike his predecessors, Uzodinma’s tenure has been marked by the Ministry of Lands being largely inactive, leaving citizens without answers. Dr. Ihekweme urged the governor to address these concerns, refund the money or allocate the plots, and focus on responsible governance to restore public trust.
He emphasized that prioritizing the needs of the people and fostering transparent leadership would enable Uzodinma to leave behind a positive legacy.
