The town of Amiri, in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, was aglow with cultural pride on Saturday, July 26, 2025, as it hosted the 2025 edition of the Owu Festival — a vibrant celebration of heritage, unity, and tradition.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Chief Honourable Wisdom Ekewuba, who joined thousands of indigenes and well-wishers to commemorate the event. Chief Ekewuba commended the people of Amiri for their unwavering commitment to preserving their cultural identity. He described the Owu Festival as a significant platform for promoting unity, fostering traditional values, and strengthening community bonds.
The ceremony was chaired by Honourable Chief Felix Onuba, who warmly welcomed guests to his palatial residence in Amiri. Chief Onuba, known for his consistent contributions to community development and cultural advancement, emphasized the importance of traditional festivals in promoting peace, unity, and a sense of belonging among the people.
Also in attendance was the Imo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Honourable Barrister Jerry Egemba, whose presence reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to cultural preservation. He praised the organizers and the Amiri community for their dedication to sustaining the festival and highlighted its potential to enhance tourism and stimulate the local economy.
The Owu Festival featured a colourful display of traditional music, cultural dances, masquerade performances, and other indigenous exhibitions that captivated attendees and showcased the rich heritage of the Amiri people. The celebration brought together elders, youths, and visitors in a lively and harmonious atmosphere.
As the festivities continued late into the evening, the 2025 Owu Festival stood as a testament to the resilient cultural spirit of the Amiri people — proud custodians of a heritage that continues to thrive across generations.
