THE POWER ROTATION AND THE UNDENIABLE TIME OF ORU WEST TO FIELD THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SEAT IN 2027

by admin

Over the years, the Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, and Oru West Federal Constituency has thrived on a gentleman’s agreement — a political understanding built on coexistence, fairness, and mutual respect among the three local government areas. This unwritten pact has been the foundation for peaceful transitions and equitable power-sharing, ensuring that every component of the constituency has a sense of belonging and representation at the federal level.

However, as time has revealed, the practice of this rotational arrangement has not been consistent. The imbalance and deviation from the principle of fair transition have created a growing sense of marginalization and political injustice, particularly against Oru West Local Government Area.

It is, therefore, imperative that we collectively re-examine the pattern of political succession within our constituency and realign with the true spirit of equity, fairness, and justice — principles that are essential for peace and harmonious political coexistence.

Understanding the Principle of Power Rotation : The philosophy of power rotation in our constituency was never meant to circulate positions among individuals within the same local government area. Instead, it was designed to rotate the position among the three local government areas — Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, and Oru West — in a fair and progressive sequence.

Unfortunately, the practice in recent years has seen some LGAs dominating the position repeatedly, thereby distorting the balance and essence of our collective agreement.

Let us briefly recall the historical distribution of the House of Representatives seat in the Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency:

Years Representative Local Government Area

1999 – 2003 Hon. Tony Okere Ohaji/Egbema
2003 – 2007 Sen. Osita Izunaso Oru West
2007 – 2011 Hon. Chuka Kanma Nwauwa Oguta
2011 – 2015 Hon. Theophilus Irona Oguta
2015 – 2019 Hon. Goodluck Opiah Ohaji/Egbema
2019 – 2023 Hon. Uju Kingsley Ohaji/Egbema
2023 – Date Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu Oguta

From this table, it is glaring that Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta have consistently occupied the House of Representatives seat multiple times, while Oru West has been left behind — having last produced a representative over two decades ago (2003–2007).

This long-standing marginalization is both politically and morally indefensible. Justice and equity demand that in 2027, the political pendulum swings to Oru West.

Oru West has patiently waited, supported, and contributed immensely to the growth and unity of the constituency. The people have remained loyal to the shared vision of development and peaceful coexistence. Yet, fairness has not been reciprocated in the sharing of political representation.

To uphold the integrity of our democratic practice, we must return to the foundational agreement of equitable rotation. The year 2027 must mark the return of fairness — the rightful turn of Oru West.

This call is not borne out of selfish interest but out of the need to preserve peace, mutual respect, and political balance among our people. Power rotation sustains unity; equity sustains democracy. By allowing Oru West to field the House of Representatives candidate in 2027, we reaffirm our collective commitment to justice and to the original intent of our political covenant.

It is, therefore, an undeniable and unstoppable truth that 2027 is the rightful and destined time for Oru West to produce the next representative for the Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency.

Let justice lead the way, and let fairness restore harmony to our political family.
