In a decisive move aimed at strengthening party unity and discipline, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled several high-profile members during its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. The decision, which was overwhelmingly ratified by delegates, marks a new chapter in the party’s drive to consolidate its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The expelled members include former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and former House of Representatives member Austin Nwachukwu, among others. Party leaders emphasized that the move is not punitive but a necessary step to safeguard the party’s cohesion and future electoral success.
Speaking at the convention, a PDP official said, “Our priority is a unified party that can effectively serve Nigerians. These actions, though difficult, reflect our commitment to discipline, transparency, and collective progress.” Delegates at the convention expressed strong support for the leadership’s decision, highlighting the need for accountability and teamwork within the party.
