Fresh concerns over rising insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) intensified on Sunday following reports that unidentified individuals allegedly trailed Lieutenant A.M. Yerima in the Kubwa area. Security sources disclosed that the military responded swiftly, deploying personnel and eight patrol vehicles to Gado Nasko Road in what appears to be a precautionary operation to forestall any further threat.

According to sources familiar with the incident, Lt. Yerima was reportedly followed by suspicious persons while returning to his residence. The individuals, whose identities remain unknown, allegedly kept a close distance before disappearing once they noticed possible detection. Though the motive remains unclear, the development has triggered heightened alert within military circles.

In response, a contingent of soldiers was dispatched to the area shortly after the report was filed. Residents confirmed an unusual presence of armed personnel and patrol trucks stationed at strategic points along Gado Nasko Road, a major route in Kubwa. The deployment, which continued into the late hours of Sunday, was described as both a protective measure for the officer and a deterrent against potential attacks.

The intensified security operation reportedly involved routine stop-and-search activities, increased surveillance, and coordinated patrols across adjoining streets. Local inhabitants expressed mixed reactions: while some welcomed the heightened security, others voiced concerns about growing insecurity and the potential risks faced by military officers and civilians alike.

As of the time of this report, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Defence Headquarters has issued an official statement on the alleged attempt or the subsequent deployment. Security analysts, however, note that such rapid mobilization underscores the seriousness with which the military treats potential threats against its personnel, especially in regions experiencing a spike in criminal activity.

The incident adds to the string of security concerns in the FCT, where residents have repeatedly called for stronger measures to address kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. The situation in Kubwa, one of Abuja’s most populated suburbs, has drawn particular attention due to its dense layout and porous access routes.

Investigations into the identity and motive of the alleged trailing suspects are ongoing, while military presence remained noticeable in the area as of Monday morning. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to relevant authorities.
