A 27 year old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been arrested in New Orleans after he allegedly killed his father and stabbed his two sisters during a violent incident on November 11, 2025.
Police officers responded to an emergency call at about 9 59 p m at a home on Pebble Street in New Orleans East. When they arrived, they found Professor Samuel Eweni, a computer science lecturer at Southern University at New Orleans, dead from multiple stab wounds. His two daughters were also found with serious injuries.
Both sisters were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. One has already been discharged, while the other is still receiving care but is expected to recover.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene but was later located and arrested in Jefferson Parish. He is now undergoing medical evaluation at a secured facility.
Chukwuebuka Eweni has been charged with second degree murder for the death of his father and two counts of attempted second degree murder for the attack on his sisters.
Family members said he had a history of mental health problems but had never shown violent behavior in the past. They stated that they do not know what triggered the sudden outbreak of violence, as the family was known to be peaceful.
The incident has shocked the community in New Orleans and members of the Nigerian diaspora, who described Professor Samuel Eweni as a dedicated academic and a respected family man. Police investigations are still ongoing to understand what led to the tragic event.
