The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by former national vice chairman Danladi Turaki has filed a formal request seeking the withdrawal of the presiding judge in the ongoing suit over the partys leadership tussle.
In a motion submitted to the court, the Turaki led group argued that recent developments in the proceedings raise concerns about fairness and neutrality. The faction insists that a different judge should handle the matter to maintain public confidence in the judicial process. It added that the leadership dispute, already a source of tension within the party, requires a transparent adjudication process free from any perception of bias.
The suit, which has deepened internal divisions within the party, centers on competing claims to the PDP national leadership structure. Turakis camp alleges procedural irregularities and maintains that the current leadership was not constituted in line with the party constitution.
Court officials have acknowledged receipt of the recusal application, stating that a decision will be made after all parties are heard. Legal analysts note that the withdrawal of a judge is usually considered only when strong evidence of potential bias is presented, making this motion a critical turning point in the internal party crisis.
Meanwhile, several party stakeholders are calling for renewed efforts toward reconciliation, warning that continued legal battles may further weaken the PDP ahead of future electoral activities.
