Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said that his return to office after the political crisis in the state was made possible by the grace of God and the support of President Bola Tinubu. He spoke during the 36th convocation ceremony of Rivers State University, where he reflected on the events that led to the temporary suspension of elected officials during the emergency rule.
Fubara explained that the situation earlier in the year threatened his position as governor, but he believed divine help and the intervention of the president played key roles in his restoration to power. He said he might not have been able to continue leading the state without these factors.
The governor also assured students, staff, and management of the university that his administration will continue to invest in education. He promised improvements in infrastructure, welfare, and support for satellite campuses. He described education as an essential foundation for development and progress in the state.
Rivers State faced a major political crisis that resulted in a six month emergency rule declared by the federal government. During that time, the governor, deputy governor, and members of the state legislature were suspended. President Tinubu lifted the emergency rule in September and reinstated all affected officials, allowing the state to return to normal governance.
Fubara said his administration remains committed to the stability and growth of Rivers State and will continue to work toward lasting peace and development.
