Security operatives in Kogi State have rescued twenty one trafficked children in Yagba East Local Government Area after intercepting what authorities described as a suspected covert recruitment operation.
According to officials, the children whose ages have not yet been disclosed were found being transported under suspicious circumstances. The operatives reportedly acted on intelligence that suggested the movement could be linked to an organized trafficking network.
The rescue operation led to the apprehension of at least one suspect believed to be involved in coordinating the covert recruitment effort. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the identities of all individuals connected to the scheme as well as the intended destination of the children.
The rescued victims have been taken into protective custody where they are receiving care and undergoing profiling to help reunite them with their families.
Security agencies in the state have reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and cracking down on trafficking rings, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
