The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has summoned businessman Aliko Dangote following a petition he submitted against the immediate past Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed.

The anti-corruption agency is investigating allegations of corruption, abuse of office and financial impropriety raised in the petition, which was reportedly filed through Dangote’s legal representatives.

As part of the process, the commission has asked Dangote to appear before its investigators to formally adopt the petition and provide evidence to support the claims.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the petition accuses the former NMDPRA boss of living beyond his legitimate income, including claims that he spent several million dollars on the education of his children abroad. It also alleges that decisions taken during his tenure negatively affected domestic refining efforts and favoured petroleum importation.

The ICPC has constituted a special panel to handle the investigation and has made it clear that the resignation of the former NMDPRA chief will not stop the probe. Investigators are expected to review the allegations in detail before inviting other parties mentioned in the petition to respond.

The development has drawn public attention given the strategic importance of the petroleum sector and the profile of the individuals involved.

The ICPC has assured that the investigation will be conducted professionally and in line with the law, as the federal government continues to emphasize accountability and transparency in public office.
