The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the explosion which occurred at a mosque within Gamboru Market in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council of Borno State was caused by a suicide bomber.

The clarification followed preliminary investigations into the incident, which initially caused panic among traders and worshippers in the area.
According to the Army, initial assessments revealed that the blast was a deliberate attack carried out by an individual who infiltrated the crowded market environment before detonating an explosive device inside the mosque.

The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of Borno State despite sustained counter-insurgency efforts by security forces.

In the aftermath of the explosion, security operatives swiftly cordoned off the affected area to prevent further threats and allow emergency responders to carry out their duties. Authorities also began a detailed investigation to establish the identity of the attacker and determine whether the act was linked to any terrorist group operating in the region.

The Nigerian Army reassured residents of Maiduguri that measures have been intensified to protect lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.

The incident has renewed calls for enhanced security around public places, particularly markets and places of worship, as communities continue to recover from years of insurgency-related violence.
