Nigerian police have confirmed that the driver involved in the road accident that injured former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been taken into custody as investigations continue.
The crash occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. Joshua was travelling in a Lexus SUV alongside members of his team when the vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the driver of the SUV is currently being questioned to help determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities stated that the detention is part of standard investigative procedures and does not yet indicate formal charges.
Preliminary reports suggest that factors such as speed, overtaking, and a possible tyre burst may have contributed to the crash. Police also revealed that efforts are ongoing to locate the driver of the truck involved in the incident.
Tragically, two members of Joshua’s team lost their lives in the accident. Anthony Joshua himself sustained minor injuries and was treated at a nearby medical facility before being discharged in stable condition.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
