Atiku Abubakar has thrown his weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a credible platform to challenge and potentially defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Atiku criticized the APC-led administration, saying it has not done enough to address key national issues. He pointed to economic challenges, insecurity, and governance concerns as reasons many Nigerians are seeking change.
He said the ADC could serve as a unifying platform for opposition groups looking to present a stronger front. According to him, a united effort will be necessary to compete with the APC’s established nationwide structure.
His comments come as political activity ahead of 2027 begins to take shape, with discussions around alliances and possible defections already emerging. Observers say any opposition party hoping to defeat the APC will need to build support across different regions and present clear solutions to the country’s challenges.
Atiku’s position on the ADC suggests a possible shift in strategy, as opposition figures consider new ways to strengthen their chances in the next general election.
