In a bid to strengthen its membership base ahead of the 2027 general election, one of Nigeria’s newly registered political parties, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has distributed manual registration forms across the 27 local government areas of Imo State.

The Imo State Chairman of the party, Barr. Reginald Uwakwe, disclosed this while addressing journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat along MCC Road in Owerri.

Uwakwe explained that the exercise aligns with directives given to state chapters to ensure that all interested citizens are captured in the party’s membership register.
He noted that while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines and the Electoral Act encourage online registration of party members, the manual approach was introduced to accommodate individuals facing network challenges.

“Considering network issues and in a bid to ensure inclusivity—especially for the elderly and physically challenged—we have adopted manual registration. Those captured offline will later be uploaded electronically,” he said.

Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Uwakwe stated that the NDC is well-positioned to win the upcoming elections in Imo State and across Nigeria. He argued that many Nigerians are dissatisfied with the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and are turning to the NDC as a viable alternative.

He further revealed that the party already has a presence in all 305 electoral wards in Imo State, adding that its people-centered ideology has attracted growing support.

“The Nigerian masses understand what the NDC represents, and that is why they are joining the party in large numbers,” he said.
Uwakwe also commended the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, for his leadership qualities, citing integrity, openness, and trustworthiness as core values of the party.

Criticizing the APC-led government, he accused it of worsening economic hardship and failing to address key national issues. He maintained that the 2027 elections would offer Nigerians an opportunity to choose a new direction.

He urged residents of Imo State to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise to join the NDC and contribute to what he described as a movement for positive change, promising a more prosperous future under the party.
