“If My Children Join Criminals, I’ll Hand Them Over Myself” — Rotimi Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has ignited national debate after delivering a hard-hitting message on insecurity and accountability in Nigeria.

Amaechi declared that no family bond would stop him from supporting justice if any member of his household became involved in criminal activities or acts of insecurity.

“I love my wife and my three children, but if they are involved in insecurity, I will personally ensure they are locked up,” he stated.

The former governor said Nigeria’s fight against insecurity would remain difficult as long as influential people continue shielding relatives and associates linked to crime. According to him, the rule of law must be respected without favoritism, emotion, or political influence.

Amaechi stressed that true leadership requires sacrifice, honesty, and the courage to place national interest above personal relationships. He argued that many security challenges persist because criminals often escape justice through connections and protection from powerful individuals.

He further called on Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies and encourage moral discipline among young people, warning that silence and complicity only strengthen criminal networks across the country.

His comments have triggered widespread reactions from citizens and political observers, with many describing the statement as bold, fearless, and a rare example of accountability from a top political figure.

As insecurity continues to dominate national conversations, Amaechi’s remarks have added fresh momentum to debates surrounding justice, leadership, and equal treatment under the law in Nigeria.
