Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has met with former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, following the party’s presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting came shortly after Atiku emerged victorious in the keenly contested ADC presidential primary, defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to clinch the party’s ticket.
Photos from the meeting, which surfaced online on Thursday, showed both political heavyweights in a cordial atmosphere, a development many political observers have described as a strong signal of reconciliation, unity, and collaboration within the opposition party.
Sources close to the meeting disclosed that discussions centered on national issues, party cohesion, and the need for opposition leaders to work together in addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
The post-primary engagement has also been interpreted as an effort by Atiku to consolidate support within the ADC and maintain internal stability after the highly competitive primary process.
Amaechi, a prominent political figure with influence across the South-South region, was among the leading contenders for the ADC presidential ticket before Atiku’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer.
Political analysts believe the meeting may help strengthen the ADC’s chances as the opposition party positions itself for a major showdown in the next presidential election.
