An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mrs. Grace Ogunleye, over allegations that she orchestrated her own kidnapping.
According to reports, Ogunleye was initially declared missing on May 20, 2026, after her vehicle was found abandoned along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti Road, prompting a joint rescue operation by security agencies. She was later found safe following efforts by the police, military, and other security operatives.
However, subsequent police investigations allegedly revealed that the kidnapping incident may have been staged. Investigators reportedly believe the alleged plan was intended to raise funds for personal financial commitments and political obligations.
Following her arraignment on multiple charges related to the alleged self-orchestrated abduction, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered that Ogunleye be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Pius Dada, described the incident as disturbing and unacceptable, stressing that no public official should be above the law. He emphasized that the rule of law must prevail regardless of status or political position.
The case has been adjourned pending further directives from the DPP. As legal proceedings continue, Ogunleye remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a competent court of law.
