A large-scale search operation is underway in Kogi State after suspected kidnappers abducted officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and a group of mourners travelling through a forested area of the state.

The incident has prompted a swift response from security agencies, with the Nigeria Police Force deploying tactical teams to the area while local hunters and vigilante groups join the search in a coordinated effort to rescue the victims.

According to available reports, the victims were travelling on separate journeys when they were ambushed by armed men, who forced them into the surrounding forest. The attack has raised fresh concerns about the security of motorists using the route.

Police authorities said officers are combing the forest and surrounding communities in search of the abductors, while intelligence gathering has been intensified to track the suspects and ensure the victims are rescued safely.

Local hunters, who are familiar with the difficult terrain, have been mobilised to support the operation. Their knowledge of the forest is expected to aid security operatives in locating the kidnappers’ hideouts.

The abduction of the FRSC personnel has drawn concern, as the officials were reportedly carrying out their official duties before the attack. The mourners, on the other hand, were said to have been returning from a burial ceremony when they were intercepted by the gunmen.

Residents in nearby communities have expressed worry over the incident and called for stronger security measures along major highways and remote routes frequently targeted by criminal gangs.

Security agencies have appealed to members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing operation. They also advised travellers to stay alert and report suspicious movements to the nearest security post.

The latest incident adds to the growing challenge of kidnapping in parts of Kogi State, where attacks on commuters have become a source of concern for residents and road users. Community leaders have continued to urge the government to strengthen security presence in vulnerable areas and improve surveillance along major roads.

As the rescue operation continues, families of the abducted victims remain hopeful for their safe return, while security operatives have assured the public that efforts are being intensified to bring the victims home safely and bring those responsible to justice.
