The Supreme Court has upheld the final forfeiture of several high-value properties and assets linked to former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in a major ruling that reinforces Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to recover assets connected to alleged financial misconduct.
The apex court affirmed the earlier decision of the Federal High Court, bringing an end to the prolonged legal battle over the ownership of the assets. The judgment effectively overturned the previous decision of the Court of Appeal, which had ordered a fresh hearing of the matter.
The forfeited assets reportedly include seven landed properties located in Lagos and Delta States, about $2.045 million in cash, as well as share certificates connected to the case. With the Supreme Court’s decision, the assets will remain permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
