Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Member Representing Ideato in Federal House of Representative has appealed on the urgent need for road infrastructure development and erosion control in Ideato North and urged the Imo State government to complete Unmuchima road ongoing project before the rainy season exacerbates the situation.
The Lawmaker,stated that devastating gully erosion affects several areas, including Umueshi Amanato, Ntoala, Oruala , Isiokpo Obodoukwu and Oruala, damaging infrastructure and posing risks to lives. And he criticized the state government’s handling of a World Bank project, alleging that greed led to the project’s abandonment, leaving communities vulnerable.
Hon. Ugochinyere plea the Federal Government, Minister of Works, and the Minister of Roads for
urgent Intervention to address gully erosion and road infrastructure challenges to prevent further damage and loss of life.
Speaking to his Constituency in his residence in Ideato North LGA, Hon. Ikenga expressed pain and frustration over a video podcast alleging government involvement in an incident that led to the death of their uncle and others, criticizing the Nigerian Police for failing to apprehend those responsible for the assassination and called on the National Security Adviser, President, and Inspector General of Police to investigate the allegations and bring perpetrators to justice.
Also he emphasized the need for accountability and justice for the fallen heroes, ensuring those responsible face consequences.
Even as his emotional appeal highlighted the importance of truth and justice uncovering the truth behind the incident and holding those responsible accountable. This would go a long way ensuring the safety and protection of citizens, particularly in cases of violent crimes by holding government officials and agencies responsible for their actions and ensuring transparency in their dealings.
The Federal House Member, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, highlights the dire security situation in Imo and Anambra States, emphasizing the need for federal intervention. Stating concerns that
the rampant kidnapping and insecurity in the region have resulted in loss of lives, displacement of people, and disruption of economic activities, particularly farming.
“The insecurity has forced farmers to abandon their farmlands, exacerbating food insecurity and economic hardship to our people, i urged the federal government to increase the number of soldiers to effectively combat insecurity and flush out bad elements from the bushes so that our parents could go back to their farms.
He also appreciates Security Efforts, commended the Inspector General of Police and Chief of Army Staff for their efforts in addressing insecurity and asked the federal government to encourage the Military that are really fighting insecurity in this country.
The Lawmaker, advocated for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release, appealed the federal government to consider releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally as a potential solution to restore peace and stability in the South-East region.His appeal underscores the need for enhanced security measures by deploying more soldiers and security personnel to effectively combat insecurity.
In the relative development, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere critiqued of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlights concerns about the party’s current state and leadership, describing PDP’s condition as dire, attributing it to ineffective leadership and lack of accountability. He specifically targets individuals like Iyorchia Ayu, Umar Damagum, and Samuel Anyanwu, questioning their commitment to the party’s ideals and accusing them of prioritizing personal interests.
Hon. Ikenga criticized PDP governors for failing to address the party’s challenges and prevent its decline. Calling for renewal, he emphasized the need for PDP to rediscover its founding principles and values, urging a return to its roots to regain relevance and credibility, as the fathers founders of the Party in the likes of Alex Ekeueme, Barnabas Dabaje, Solomon Lah, Adamu Joroma and others if alive today would have wept.
He mentioned that the risk of PDP disintegrating due to internal conflicts and lack of direction, loss of ideals perceived abandonment of the party’s founding ideals and values. Demanding the necessity for PDP to undergo reforms and restructuring to regain its position as a viable opposition party.
The Lawmaker regrettably highlighted concerns about the party’s direction and decision-making. He questioned the party leaders’ ability to resolve internal conflicts and make timely decisions, citing the prolonged vacancy in the party’s leadership. Accusing certain leaders, including Damagum and Anyanwu, of sabotaging the party for personal gain.
Criticising Damagum’s previous remarks, Hon. Ikenga finds his comment about the party’s fate being in God’s hands to be insensitive and hypocritical, given the party’s current challenges.
Challenged Party Governance,the need for effective leadership and decision-making within the party as urgent as possible. And the importance of holding party leaders accountable for their actions and decisions, the challenge of maintaining party unity and cohesion in the face of internal conflicts and external pressures.
The lawmaker’s warning to PDP members highlights concerns about internal party dynamics and potential defections. He alleged that Damagum and Anyanwu are plotting to prevent the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting and sabotage efforts to address the party’s problems scheduled on August.
The lawmaker revealed that forty elected members and two governors are planning to defect to the APC, which could further weaken PDP, yet Damagum and Leaders of the party are doing nothing to address the party’s challenges and potential defections.
The situation reflects broader concerns about Party stability, the potential impact of defections and internal conflicts on PDP’s stability and electoral prospects.
As well as the importance for effective leadership and decision-making within PDP to address its challenges, maintaining party loyalty and cohesion in the face of internal conflicts and external pressure.
The Federal House Member, demanded for the unconditional expulsion of Samuel Anyanwu and Nyesom Wike from PDP, citing their alleged role in sabotaging the part. While he accused Anyanwu, Damagum, and Wike of orchestrating new court cases in Federal High Court to further destabilize the party and remove certain party officials of NWC, criticizing the ongoing infighting and legal battles within PDP, warning that they could lead to the party’s downfall.
Also maintaining the need for party leaders to prioritize the party’s interests and address internal conflicts effectively and the ongoing legal disputes on PDP.
Including the situation in Rivers State which also involved a legal dispute regarding the lawmakers supporting Governor Fubara, that a case has been filed seeking to declare the seats of certain lawmakers vacant due to their support for Governor Fubara.
While the Supreme Court had previously ruled that all members should maintain the status quo, but the new case seems to contradict this ruling. The lawmaker accused certain individuals, including Samuel Anyanwu, Nyseom Wike and others, of instigating the court case to create crisis and anarchy.
This situation reflects broader concerns about the potential impact of ongoing legal disputes on political stability in Rivers State. Hon. Ugochinyere disclossed that a case has been filed against him at the Federal High Court,by pro-Nysoem Wike specifically Court 11, with claims of forged documents aiming to declare his seat vacant, because of their perception of political persecution through legal means and misuse of the Court system for political gain. He expressed determination to contest the case and protect his seat.
Hon. Ikenga Imo, further highlighted the ongoing conflict within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly focusing on the feud between the party leadership and Nyesom Wike. He attributed Wike’s actions against the PDP to his loss in the presidential primaries. He suggests that Wike has been filing court cases to destabilize the party that had previously elevated him to various positions.
The lawmaker criticized the PDP leadership for not taking strong enough action against Wike’s efforts to undermine the party. He expressed frustration that instead of defending the party, some leaders have chosen to flee and compromise.
Hon. Ikenga called for decisive action, urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to hold an emergency meeting to address these issues. He emphasized the need for decisive action, suggesting that the NWC should not wait for the governors, some of whom he believes may have been compromised.
The ongoing infighting within the PDP reflects deeper issues of leadership, loyalty, and direction within the party. The conflict between Wike and the party leadership is seen as a significant challenge that could impact negativity to the party’s stability and future electoral prospects.
