OluImo Commends Hon. Chike Okafor for Presenting Concerns of Oil-Producing Communities to the National Assembly, Cautions Committees Against Compromise

Abuja, Nigeria – Renowned activist and public advocate, Prince Maduba Chukwudi Francis, popularly known as OluImo, has publicly commended Hon. Chike Okafor, the federal lawmaker representing Ehime Mbano/Obowo/Ihitte Uboma Federal Constituency, for his proactive stance in championing the concerns of oil-producing communities at the National Assembly.

Hon. Okafor had recently moved a motion on the floor of the House of Representatives, highlighting the decades-long neglect, environmental degradation, and economic marginalization suffered by communities hosting oil exploration and production activities. His motion drew attention to the urgent need for responsive action from both government and stakeholders in the oil sector.

In a statement issued to the media, OluImo described the lawmaker’s action as “a bold and commendable move that reflects true leadership and empathy for marginalized communities.”

“Hon. Chike Okafor has demonstrated uncommon courage and dedication by bringing the plight of the oil-producing communities to national attention. His motion is not only timely, but it also gives hope to the people whose voices have long been ignored,” OluImo said.

While praising the lawmaker for sponsoring what he called a “wonderful motion,” OluImo also used the opportunity to issue a strong caution to the committees to which the resolution was referred. He urged them to carry out their investigations with objectivity, transparency, and integrity.

“It is crucial that the committees do not compromise their responsibilities or become sudden opportunists seeking financial gains from oil companies. This is a defining moment to restore trust in public institutions and to deliver justice to affected communities,” he stated.

OluImo called for a comprehensive and unbiased report that would reflect the true state of affairs in the host communities and serve as a basis for meaningful intervention and policy reform.

He also urged civil society groups, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the media to monitor the process closely and ensure that the outcome truly serves the interest of the people.

“We will not tolerate any attempt to water down the essence of this motion. The oil-producing communities deserve justice, development, and a voice in decisions that affect their lives. Hon. Okafor has done his part — now the committees must rise to the occasion,” OluImo concluded.
