The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has warned that passengers engaging in unruly behaviour at airports or onboard aircraft will face strict sanctions, including prosecution, in line with national and international aviation laws.

In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, FAAN described such conduct as a serious security and safety threat that will no longer be tolerated. The agency said it is working with security agencies to strengthen its enforcement procedures, referencing the Airport Approved Security Programme, Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, and International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

The warning follows a recent incident on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, where a passenger allegedly refused to switch off her mobile phone during flight, assaulted the cabin purser after landing, and was later removed from the aircraft by security personnel in a confrontation captured on video. The airline has since banned her from future travel.

FAAN confirmed that its Aviation Security team detained the passenger at Lagos Domestic Terminal 2 and handed her over to the police for prosecution.

The agency urged travellers to remain civil, obey lawful instructions, and familiarise themselves with passenger guidelines, stressing that the safety, comfort, and security of all airport users will remain its top priority.
