In a grievous turn of events, Nerus Elemamba, a 30-year-old alumnus of the esteemed Federal Polytechnics Nekede situated in Imo state, tragically ended his own life. His lifeless body was discovered suspended within the confines of his chamber on the evening of Monday, situated within the precincts of his ancestral village, Umuohii, nestled in the heart of Oboama community within the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
This distressing occurrence unfolded subsequent to his active involvement in the communal exertions of the day, as he dutifully partook in the manual labor alongside his compatriots. A confidential informant divulged that despite Nerus’s academic pursuit in Architecture, there had been no discernible manifestations of despondency or psychological distress prior to this unfortunate incident.
The informant, speaking under conditions of anonymity, shared, “The deceased, identified as Nerus, hails from the quaint hamlet of Umuohii within the precincts of Oboama Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State. It was on the eve of yesterday, Monday, that he took the dire step of terminating his own existence.”
“Regrettably,” the informant continued, “the motivations underlying his actions remain shrouded in obscurity. Despite his academic accolades in the field of Architecture, acquired from the prestigious Federal Polytechnics in Nekede, there was no indication of distress evident to anyone in his orbit. In fact, just the morning prior, he had exhibited robust vitality whilst engaging in communal labor alongside his peers.”
Another informant, disclosing details to Okeomanews, confirmed that the deceased had not left behind any written testament elucidating the rationale behind his decision. Shedding further light on the matter, the informant conveyed, “Nerus Chinaechenwa Elemamba, the second progeny of the late Mr. Cajethan Elemamba, was discovered deceased on Monday evening, having taken the irreversible step of self-asphyxiation within his personal quarters.”
“Nerus had partaken in the communal labor activities of the village just the preceding morning, appearing hale and hearty, before this lamentable turn of events transpired,” the informant lamented.
The youth leader of the village, Iheukwumere Ibeh, shared his sentiments in a telephonic conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday morning, expressing profound shock and bewilderment at the unfolding tragedy. He divulged that the deceased was laid to rest following the observance of requisite cultural rites aimed at placating the spirits of the land.
“This development is profoundly distressing. The motivations underlying his actions remain an enigma, compounded by the absence of any written testament. Unmarried and aged between 30 and 31 years, Nerus had not been interred within a mortuary. As we speak, his remains are being consigned to the earth, following the meticulous execution of cultural rites to assuage the spirits of our ancestors,” the youth leader articulated.
When approached for comment, the spokesperson for the state police, Henry Okoye, conveyed that he had yet to receive any official briefing regarding the incident.
