Young Farmers and students in Imo, have been enlightened on the importance of agricultural biotechnology in order to embrace the modern technology in agricultural practices.
The workshop organized by the National Biotechnology Research Development Agency ( NBRDA) , in collaboration with Global Initiative For Youths Advancement and Peace ( GIYAP) , was well attended by agricultural stakeholders within and outside Imo. Which was tagged: “One Day Agricultural Biotechnology Youth Vanguard Workshop For Early Careers And Young Farmers In Imo State”.
Speaking on the theme of the event, “Cultivating Tomorrow ‘s Agricultural Innovators: Inaugural Workshop For The Agricultural Biotechnology Youth Vanguard “. the Director General / Chief Executive Officer Of National Biotechnology Research Development Agency ( NBRDA) , Prof Abdullahi Mustapha , said that the workshop is geared towards informing people on the importance of agricultural biotechnology, for people to to know that Nigeria have technology that enhances agricultural practices.
Prof Mustapha , added that the training will help the participants to use the agricultural biotechnology judiciously , and have a good yields after putting it in practice. He testified that lots of achievements have been made through the agricultural biotechnology.
Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, represented by the Director General, Imo State Investment Promotion Agency, Prof Jude Nzeako , encouraged the participants to queue to the initiative. He assured Imo citizens that, they will be empowered, supported and guided on the use of agricultural biotechnology, so as food security will be sufficient in Imo.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator For Global Initiative For Youths Advancement and Peace (GIYAP) , Barr James Reymond, noted that the workshop will expose the participants on the knowledge of biotechnology products . Barr Raymond, who is also the converter of the event, encouraged the participants to embrace the modern technology, science and innovation in agricultural practices.
The workshop featured lecturers and paper presentation, delivered by Prof Tochukwu Ogbuile , Dr Rose Gidado , Mrs Iweajunwa Sarah.
