2027 Election: Tinubu May Win, But They’ll Still Cry Rigging — Sowunmi

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson and political commentator, Segun Sowunmi, has stirred fresh reactions with his comments on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.

Sowunmi said he “pities” Tinubu, suggesting that even if the president wins the 2027 election, his opponents may still accuse him of rigging the poll.

Speaking on the political situation ahead of the next presidential election, Sowunmi said the major issue Nigeria could face may not be who wins or loses, but how political actors respond to the eventual outcome.

According to him, there is a possibility that a candidate could secure victory at the polls and still face accusations of electoral manipulation from those who expected a different result.

He stressed that political parties and their supporters must be prepared to accept electoral outcomes and make use of legitimate legal channels whenever they have concerns about the process.

Sowunmi’s comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum across the country.

President Tinubu is expected to face a serious challenge from opposition forces seeking to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition is expected to focus its campaign on issues including the economy, security, unemployment, governance and the overall performance of the Tinubu administration.

For the ruling party, however, the 2027 election will provide an opportunity to seek a fresh mandate from Nigerians and defend the administration’s record.

The question of electoral credibility is also expected to remain a major issue during the election season. Political parties are likely to demand transparency, while voters will be watching closely to ensure that their votes count.

Sowunmi argued that accepting the outcome of an election is crucial to the stability of the country, particularly when political disagreements become intense.

He warned against situations where politicians reject election results simply because the outcome does not favour them.

The former PDP spokesperson also believes that political disputes should be handled through democratic institutions rather than actions capable of creating tension or threatening national stability.

As the 2027 election approaches, the political atmosphere is expected to become increasingly competitive, with parties working to strengthen their structures and attract voters across the country.

Whether Tinubu eventually secures another mandate will ultimately be decided by Nigerian voters and the official electoral process.

For now, Sowunmi’s prediction has added another talking point to the growing 2027 debate, particularly his suggestion that even a Tinubu victory could be followed by allegations of electoral rigging.

The coming months are therefore expected to produce more political calculations, alliances, controversies and predictions as Nigeria moves closer to another crucial presidential election.
