The Chief Medical Director Of Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri, Dr Kingsley Achigbu , has plead on Nigerian government to take all necessary measures to ensure the safe release and return of Dr Ganiyat Papoola.
Dr Achigbu made this plea when members of Association Of Resident Doctors, Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri protested over their colleague , Dr Ganiyat Papoola, who have been kidnapped for seven months ago by unknown abductors .
Recalled, Dr Ganiyat Papoola, a registrar in the department of Opthalmology at the National Eye Center, Kaduna State, was abducted along side with her husband and nephew on 28th of December, 2023 . The husband was later released on 8th of March , 2024 . But Dr Ganiyat Papoola and nephew are yet to be released.
Dr Achigbu, described the incident as a sad development in the country and assured the protesters that their colleague will be released, maintained that government and security authority have heard their complain.
He noted that many health Practioners prefer to go to outside countries for greener pastures, and few of them that decided to stay home and care for the sick that this is not way(s) to encourage them.
” Many of the health workers and doctors are looking for greener pastures outside the country and those of us who have decided to stay in Nigeria and work, this, is not the way to encourage them. And Dr Ganiyat Papoola is a mother of five , and when mother is absent, children are likely to suffer for lack of care no matter the level of care the father may offer them.
