The Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma is set to launch an ambitious project to transform the Otamiri-Nworie River into a lush green belt recreational Park.

This initiative aims to revitalize the River, which according to him has been plagued by pollution and environmental degradation, and create a thriving hub for recreation, tourism, and economic growth.

Disclosing this to newsmen last  week at the occasion of the world Tourism Day, with the theme “TOURISM and PEACE”.  The Commissioner for Tourism, And Culture, Barr. Jerry Egemba, noted that the Governor’s vision  to reclaim the Otamiri-Nworie River’s former glory, providing a safe and scenic spot for residents and visitors to enjoy stating that the  project will focus on cleaning up the river, restoring its natural habitats, and creating recreational facilities, such as parks, gardens, and walkways .

The Commissioner stated that this initiative is expected to boost the local economy, generate employment opportunities, and enhance the overall quality of life for Imo State residents.

Furthermore he hinted that Governor Uzodimma’s transformation of the Otamiri-Nworie River into a vibrant green belt recreational park, would  pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future for Imo State.

Also he pointed out that the Governor  is set to revive, revamp, and rebrand the iconic Imo Concorde Hotel, a beloved landmark in the Southeast region, positing that this move is part of his administration’s efforts to boost tourism, create jobs, and enhance the state’s economic growth.

According to him, this initiative is expected to make Imo Concorde Hotel a hub for business and leisure activities, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Imo State.

Hon. Egemba, expressed delight that Governor’s commitment to reviving the hotel is a testament to his administration’s focus on economic growth and development.

Given an insight of World Tourism Day, he said that it was established by the United Nations in 1997. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) began the tradition of selecting a host country every year, to highlight the significance of Tourism on an International level, adding that Georgia hosted this year’s World Tourism Day.

In his words, “as the Commissioner in-charge of Tourism, I am proud to say that our Tourism sector has always embrace the cherished ideals of hospitality, inclusivity, love and respect. We are always ready to welcome with open arms visitors from all over the world to our warm hospitality, rich cultural heritage and breath-taking landscapes. Tourism for us is not just an economic driver. It is a force for social good as it fosters mutual respect and understanding”.
