His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. E.C. Okeke, Chairman of the Imo State and South East Council of Traditional Rulers, has firmly denied allegations linking him to a plan to take over the Eke-Akwakuma Market in Okporo, Orlu LGA.
The claims, made in a petition dated June 9, 2025, by individuals identifying as leaders of the “Akwakuma General Youths Assembly,” accused the monarch of instructing Amaifeke youths to seize the market. During a media briefing at the Obi Ndi Eze Imo in Owerri, Eze Okeke described the petition as false, mischievous, and aimed at distracting the public from ongoing development efforts.
“I’ve never interfered in any market matters in Okporo or elsewhere. My focus remains on peace, unity, and supporting the government’s Shared Prosperity agenda,” Eze Imo stated.
He warned against politicizing traditional leadership, noting such actions threaten community harmony. Community sources also dismissed the allegations, calling them baseless and driven by personal vendettas.
Eze Okeke urged youth groups and stakeholders to focus on constructive initiatives, emphasizing collaboration and peace as keys to progress.
“We must build, not destroy,” he added, reaffirming his support for Governor Hope Uzodimma and calling for calm, unity, and development across the state.
